Bears Softball drop season opener to Daviess County

OWENSBORO - The Butler County softball team dropped its 2018 season opener on the road at Daviess County. Experienced Daviess County pitcher Cameron Hamilton tossed a two-hitter to lead the Lady Panthers past the visiting Bears 8-0 in a high school softball season opener on Thursday.
The productive Hamilton recorded 13 strikeouts.
Daviess County plated eight runs on 11 hits in the victory. Abby Newman went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Lady Panthers. Another Daviess County batter, Maci Simmons, finished 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.
Butler County pitcher Kylee Smith suffered the loss.
Dixie Garnier connected on a double for one of Butler County's two hits in the setback.
Butler County took the field for the 2018 season opener after exiting the 2017 season with a 16-16 overall record.
The Butler County and Daviess County softball teams, longtime Third Region rivals, aren't scheduled to meet again this season.
