Bears fall to Grayson County in district tournament

WHITESVILLE - Butler County's 2017-18 season ended in the opening round of the 12th District Boys' Basketball Tournament. Grayson County managed to edge the Bears 47-43 in the opening round of the 12th District Boys' Basketball Tournament on Whitesville Trinity's home floor Tuesday night.

 

With the loss, Butler County ended its season 11-14.

Grayson County improved to 12-16 and advances to both the 12th District championship game and the Third Region Boys' Basketball Tournament following the win.

Will Moore accounted for over half of Butler County's scoring in the district tournament game, tallying a game-high 23 points for the Bears in the season-ending loss. Moore, one of top basketball players in the Third Region, drained 12 free throws in the losing cause. The productive Moore was the only Butler County player to reach double figures in the scoring column.

Following Moore in the Butler County scoring column, Jaden Hurt added seven points for the Bears.

Parker Rice scored scored six points while Caleb Beasley posted four points and Brennan Grubb netted three points for the Bears in the short effort.

Butler County concluded the 2017-18 season with a loss after notching back-to-back wins.

In the other game played as part of the opening round in the 12th District Boys' Basketball Tournament, a matchup contested earlier in the evening, Edmonson County defeated Whitesville Trinity 71-59.

With the end of the 2017-18 hoops campaign, several members of the Butler County boys' basketball team will now make the transition to a spring sport. 

Grayson County will face Edmonson County in the 12th District championship game at 7 p.m. on Friday.
