Bears blast Frederick Fraize, Caverna, fall to Grayson; Moore explodes for 35 points

The Butler County Bears have won two out of their last three to improve to 8-9 on the season and 1-2 in 12th District play.

 

Led by a 35-point performance by Senior guard Will Moore, the Bears dispatched Caverna 93-80 on January 23 at home.  Butler County took care of business early on January 22 with a 92-45 drubbing of Frederick Fraize on the road.  Meanwhile, the Bears suffered a 56-41 district loss on January 19 at Grayson.

 

Butler County stayed close through much of the contest before falling short against the Grayson County Cougars, 56-41.  The Bears were led in scoring by Will Moore with 22 points.  Parker Rice and Jaden Hurt led the team in rebounding with 9 and 8, respectively.  

The Bears hit three 3-pointers and were 8 for 17 from the free throw line for just over 47 percent.


 

Butler County (41):  W. Moore 22, J. Hurt 10, B. Grubb 7, C. Beasley 2.  

 

Against Fredrick Fraize (Cloverport), the outcome was never in doubt, only the margin.  The Bears took the lead early and cruised to a 92-45 win.  Butler County had five players in double figures with Moore leading the way with 25 points and Caleb Beasley close behind with 23 points.  

Hurt grabbed nine rebounds.

The Bears knocked down eight 3-pointers and were 22 for 32 from the free throw line - 68.8 percent.  

 

Butler County (92):  W. Moore 25, C. Beasley 23, B. Grubb 11, J. Elms 10, P. Rice 10, J. Hurt 8, L. McMillin 3, and Z. Tutko 2.

 

 

In another high scoring affair, Will Moore’s 35-point outing paced the Bears’ efforts in a hard-fought 93-80 home win over Caverna.  Beasley chipped in an impressive 22 points.

Rice had 11 rebounds and Hurt 10 to lead the team.    

The Bears hit eight 3-pointers and were 17 for 23 from the free throw line for 73.9 percent.

Butler County's game at Edmonson County on Friday, January 26,has been cancelled due to the Edmonson County girls’ team advancing to the All “A” State Tournament.  It will be rescheduled.  Butler County is also slated to play Hart County at home on January 29.  Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
