Bears 49 Hancock 14

The Bears moved to (5-2) overall, and (1-1) in district with a convincing 49-14 win at home over the Hancock Co. Hornets.  The Bears took the opening drive fifty-eight yards in only nine plays; senior running back Ian Embry scoring from three yards out, the kick went wide right. Bears led 6-0 with 8:19 left in the first quarter of play.

The Hornets on their first possession responded almost breaking the return kickoff. The Hornets took the lead 7-6 with 5:30 in the first quarter of play. The Bears kept the pace and tempo by scoring on its second possession. The Bears only took one play as fifty-two yard run by Embry off tackle made the score 12-7 Bears; QB Rex Henderson connected with WR Jacob Hixenbaugh for the two point conversion pass. Bears led 14-7 with 5:17 left in the first quarter of play.

The game then turned in the second quarter as the Bears on their next two possessions would turn the ball over back to back. An interception on the third possession and a lost fumble on the fourth possession would keep the Bears defense on the field longer than desired. The Bears on their fifth possession of the opening half responded with an eighty yard, nine play drive that ended with a thirty—five yard touchdown pass from Henderson to Hixenbaugh, the Logan Richardson kick was good. Bears led 21-7 with only 3:07 remaining in the half.
But Hancock Co. was not done, with the help of forty yards of penalties the Hornets drive stayed alive and with only five seconds left in the half the Hornets found the end zone and the score going into the locker room was 21-14 Bears.
The second half of the game would be all Butler Co. Bears; as the Bears defense stepped up, completely stuffing the running game of the Hornets the rest of the night.  Praise was noted to the entire defensive unit of the Bears; Hunt, Flener, Markham, Arnold, Cameron, Smith, Brosnan, Kirby, Graham, Allen, Lee, Hampton, Wood, Henderson, Embry, & Hixenbaugh.

With the defense on full alert the Bears offense continued to roll up the score.  On the Bears second possession of the third quarter, it took only two plays and another Henderson to Shanklin touchdown pass from eight yards out. The Richardson kick good, Bears led 28-14, with 4:35 remaining in the third. The Bears would strike again on its next possession with an eight play drive that covered fifty-two yards; junior RB Blake Graham runs from six yards out for the touchdown. The Richardson kick good, 35-14 Bears with 0:04 seconds in the third quarter.
The Bears defense continued to force the Hornets to go three and out; giving the ball back to the offense. The Bears on its fifth possession took only four plays going forty-three yards as QB Henderson took the keeper in for the score from twenty-eight yards out. Kick good, Bears led 42-14 with 5:06 left to play. The Bears defense would grab the final score of the night as junior linebacker Dillon Kirby intercepted a Hornet pass and took it forty-eight yards to the house for the touchdown. Kick good, Bears 49-14 with only 2:36 remaining in the game.
