BCMS students place near top of 21st Annual Regional Bridge Building Competition

On Saturday, March 12th, the annual Regional Bridge Building Competition was held at the WKU Center for Research and Development in Bowling Green.  This competition was sponsored by Stewart-Richey Construction and WKU's Ogden College of Science, Department of Engineering, SKy Teach program and the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative.  This year's competition featured two area schools and 23 contestants.  Six students from Butler County Middle School entered bridges in the middle school division.
Butler County Middle School students placing in the top three and receiving plaques were:  Nathan Boord (1st place with an efficiency of 513.9); and Tommy Hunt (3rd place with an efficiency of 302.5).  This year, plaques were awarded to the top three finishers.  Other students competing for B.C.M.S. were: Kobe Annis (6th place), James Johnson (1oth place), Jared Hudnall (13th place), and Dawson Deel (14th place).

Also, Jared Hudnall and James Johnson received Aesthetic Design plaques for the artistic design of a bridge.  Jared placed first and James placed second in this category.  Only two such awards are presented each year.
"I want to congratulate the bridge building students who put in the additional time and effort necessary to participate in this competition," said Dennis McCrocklin, BCMS teacher and coach of the bridge building team.  "The bridge building team is very deserving of recognition and has represented Butler County Middle School well.  This was Butler County Middle School's 17th year to compete in this competition.  A special thanks to all the supportive parents, sponsors, hosts, and volunteers who make this event possible each year," added McCrocklin.
