BCMS Football Bears wrap up great year

Under clear skies and to the sound of approximately 300 cheering fans, the Butler County Middle School Football team took the field on Saturday morning October 21st at Warren Central’s turf stadium.  The Bears squared off in the Regional Finals of State against a tough TK Stone team.  The Bears were slated as the underdogs in the matchup, and it appeared early on in the game that the Panthers might dominate the Bears as they ran for 58 yards and then punched it in on the very next play to score on the first two plays of the game.  The Bears, powered by grit and determination, did not let that phase them though.  They came right back with some fight of their own scoring on a seven-play drive which ended with a nine-yard touchdown run from Alex Elmore.

The Bears went into halftime down 18-6.  The Bears came out of halftime with a renewed focus and scored on their first possession after the half with a ten play drive ending in a touchdown pass from Jagger Henderson to Solomon Flener bringing the score to 18-14. The game continued to be a tight one throughout with both teams trading touchdowns.

As the game drew to a close, fans anxiously waited to see what the Bears had planned since they had become known for cramming a lot of football into the last 2 minutes of a game.  A completed touchdown pass from Jagger Henderson to Brody Hunt to take the lead was called back due to an illegal shift call on the Bears which resulted in putting them behind the sticks and caused the Bears to turn it over on downs.  After an interception on their last possession of the game with only 1:39 left on the clock, it would seem all hope was gone for the Bears.  With three timeouts in their back pocket, however, the Bears’ defense had one more chance to hold the Panthers but were unable to do so when they converted a long third down to seal the deal.  The Panthers came out on top with a score of 26-20.  The Bears gave a valiant effort and did not give up until the last second ticked off of the clock.

This team had an extremely successful season and will go on to do great things for the future of Butler County football.
