Bears hold off Muhlenberg County, 7-5
 
MORGANTOWN - Returning to the win column following a loss to South Warren over the weekend, Butler County held on to beat visiting Muhlenberg County 7-5 in a late-season high school baseball game on Monday.
Familiar foes, Butler County and Muhlenberg County are longtime 3rd Region rivals. 
With the win, Butler County improved to 12-10. 
Muhlenberg County dropped to 16-12 with the loss. 
Butler County, which faced a one-run deficit in the bottom half of the second inning and didn't pull even until its fourth plate appearance, outhit Muhlenberg County 7-5. The Bears moved ahead in the bottom half of the fifth inning, plating five runs.
With Butler County leading 7-1, Muhlenberg County scored four runs in the top half of the seventh inning before falling short.
Butler County pitcher Warren Cameron worked a complete game and earned the win. Cameron surrendered five runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out five.
Muhlenberg County pitcher Carson McKinney took the loss. McKinney lasted four innings, allowing three hits and four runs while striking out three and walking one.
Gage Ward and Caleb Beasley led the Butler County offensive attack with two hits apiece. Ward and Duane Daniels provided two RBIs apiece for the Bears in the victory. 
Nick Casey collected two hits while Drew Travis and Peyton Lipe contributed two RBIs apiece for the Mustangs in the short effort. 
Butler County claimed its third win in four games. 
 
Bears drop road game to South Warren
 
BOWLING GREEN - After sweeping Russellville in a doubleheader one day earlier, Butler County slipped back into the loss column on Saturday as host South Warren pulled away to win 6-1 in a high school baseball game. 
Surging South Warren claimed its 10th straight victory and 20th win in the 2018 season. 
With the loss, Butler County dropped to 11-10. 
South Warren improved to 20-9 with the win. 
The Bears lost despite edging South Warren 7-6 in the hits column. 
South Warren pitcher Tyler Martin earned the win. Martin went five and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on seven hits while striking out three and walking one. Another South Warren pitcher, Bryson Yates, threw one and one-third innings in relief.
Butler County pitcher Parker Rice took the loss. Rice allowed six hits and six runs over six innings, striking out six.
Gage Ward accounted for Butler County's lone run, smacking a home run in the fourth inning. Ward and Hunter McKee led the Bears' offensive effort with two hits apiece. 
Jacob Lacey and Hunter Evans paced South Warren with two hits apiece. Lacey drove in two of the Spartans' six runs. 
South Warren excelled both offensively and defensively, turning in an error-free performance in the field. 
Butler County committed a pair or errors in the setback.
The Bears entered the final week of the regular-season with games remaining versus Metcalfe County and Ohio County. Butler County will compete in the 12th District Baseball Tournament next week. 
 
 

 Butler County sweeps Russellville in doubleheader

MORGANTOWN - Butler County swept visiting Russellville in a high school baseball doubleheader on Friday, winning 10-2 and 13-8.

Butler County 10, Russellville 2 (5 innings): Host Butler County pulled away to defeat Russellville 10-2 in five innings the opening game of a high school baseball doubleheader on Friday.
Butler County pitcher Gage Ward earned the win. Ward surrendered two runs on five hits over four innings, striking out seven and walking one. Another Butler County pitcher, Andrew Henry, threw one inning in relief.
Russellville pitcher Dillon Porter suffered the loss. Porter allowed eight hits and 10 runs over four innings, striking out seven.
Ward, Landon Cardwell, Ross West, Caleb Beasley, Parker Rice, Hunter McKee, Warren Cameron and Duane Daniels each collected one hit to lead the Bears at the plate. Daniels delivered two RBIs for the Butler County baseball team in the triumph.
Butler County 13, Russellville 8 (5 innings): Butler County scored seven runs during its first at-bat on the way to beating Russellville 13-8 in five innings in the nightcap of a high school baseball doubleheader on Friday.
With the win, Butler County improved to 11-9. Russellville slipped to 2-18 with the loss.
Butler County pitcher Ross West earned the win. West allowed three hits and five runs over three innings, striking out five. Two additional Butler County pitchers, Landon Cardwell and Caleb Beasley, worked out of relief roles.
Russellville pitcher Jackson Hampton took the loss. Hampton allowed six hits and eight runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one.
Butler County banged out nine hits. Gage Ward, Caleb Beasley and Warren Cameron paced Butler County with two hits apiece. Ward provided three RBIs while Beasley, Cameron and Carter Graham drove in two runs each.
Russellville was limited to five hits in the loss. Dillon Porter drove in three runs for the Panthers.  Russellville committed three errors in the setback.

Bears suffer loss to Logan County

RUSSELLVILLE - Visiting Butler County faced a deficit early and was forced to play from behind as Logan County pulled away to win 15-1 in a high school baseball game on Thursday.
Logan County claimed its fourth straight win while Butler County slipped back into the loss column following a 12th District win over Grayson County two days earlier.
Dominant Logan County outhit the Bears 14-4.
Butler County trailed 9-0 before plating its first run in the top half of the fourth inning. Logan County erupted for eight runs in the bottom half of the third inning to secure a large lead.
Leading 9-1, Logan County scored six runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning to move ahead 15-1.
Logan County pitcher Jackson Steward earned the win. Steward allowed one run on four hits and struck out three over five innings. Butler County pitcher Zach Smith took the loss. Smith surrendered 15 runs on 14 hits over four innings, striking out three.
Bradley Taylor led Logan County at the plate, clubbing two home runs. Logan County drilled four home runs as Koby Wall and Dylan Penick each hit one round-tripper.
Five different Logan County batters provided two hits apiece in the triumph. Hunter McKee went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Bears' limited offensive attack. Duane Daniels drove in Butler County's lone run.

 

Butler County's Cameron, Ward combine to no-hit Grayson County

MORGANTOWN - Butler County pitchers Warren Cameron and Gage Ward combined to throw no-hitter as the Bears blanked visiting Grayson County 2-0 in a 12th District baseball game on Tuesday.
The Bears were able to avenge a loss to Grayson County from one day earlier. The Cougars managed to edge the Bears 5-4 in Leitchfield on Monday.
With the win on Tuesday, Butler County improved to 9-8 overall and 4-2 in the 12th District.
Grayson County dropped to 7-17 overall and 4-2 in the district with the loss.
Determined Butler County would not be denied a district win in its latest outing. The Bears broke open a scoreless game late, plating a pair of runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning.
Ward earned the win. He surrendered zero runs on zero hits over one and one-third innings.
Grayson County pitcher Cain Smith suffered the loss. Smith surrendered two runs on six hits over six innings, striking out 10 and walking one.
Cameron started on the mound for the Bears. He allowed zero hits and zero runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out six.
Butler County plated a pair of runs via six hits. Ross West and Hunter McKee led the Butler County offensive attack with two hits apiece.
Accompanying West and McKee in the key offensive category, Ward and Parker Rice provided one hit apiece.
Grayson County committed two errors while the Bears made one defensive miscue.
Butler County is slated to visit Logan County on Thursday, May 10. The Bears have additional regular-season games remaining versus Russellville, South Warren, Metcalfe County and Ohio County.
