Bears roll past Hopkins County Central 11-1 

MORGANTOWN — Butler County rolled past Hopkins County Central 11-1 in six innings on Thursday, May 2. 

Brycen Mode started on the mound for Butler County and claimed the win. Mode pitched two innings and posted four strikeouts. 

Duncan Tyree pitched in relief for the Bears. Tyree worked four innings on the mound and recorded six strikeouts. 

Butler County scored 11 runs on 10 hits. Mode (one hit, one RBI), Will Amos (two hits, two RBIs), Justin Castlen (two hits, one RBI), Garrett Phelps (one hit, one RBI), Thomas Embry (one hit), Brock Henderson (one hit), Jay Peralta (one hit) and Mason West (one hit) each produced offensively for the Bears. 

In addition, Butler County was awarded a win via forfeit over Russellville. The Bears were scheduled to host the Panthers on Monday, May 6. 

Butler County entered the week 9-9. 

 

Bears drop district series to Cougars 

MORGANTOWN — Butler County dropped a pair of 12th District baseball games to rival Grayson County over a three-day span from Monday, April 29-Wednesday, May 1. 

Grayson County 6, Butler County 0: Pulling off a sweep of a 12th District baseball series, Grayson County blanked Butler County 6-0 in Morgantown on Wednesday, May 1.  

Garrett Phelps started on the mound for Butler County and suffered the loss. Phelps pitched five and two-thirds innings, recording five strikeouts. 

Following Phelps, Thomas Embry pitched one and one-third innings in relief for the Bears. 

Offensively for Butler County, Phelps and Colt Akers recorded one hit apiece. 

Grayson County 12, Butler County 2 (6 innings): Butler County couldn't battle back from behind as Grayson County pulled away to win 12-2 in six innings in a 12th District baseball game in Leitchfield on Monday, April 29.  

Pitching in relief for Butler County, Sam Hyatt took the loss.

Malacki Murphy started on the mound for the Bears. 

In addition to Hyatt, Will Amos pitched in relief for Butler County during the district game. 

Butler County plated two runs on seven hits. Hyatt (two hits, one RBI), Justin Castlen (two hits), Thomas Embry (one hit) Brycen Mode (one hit), Brock Henderson (one hit) and Garrett Phelps (one RBI) each contributed offensively for the Bears. 

 

Bears edge Hornets 5-4

EDMONTON — Continuing to win, Butler County edged Metcalfe County 5-4 on Friday, April 26. 

Butler County registered its fourth straight victory, improving to 8-7. 

Justin Castlen started on the mound for Butler County and claimed the win. Castlen pitched two innings and logged three strikeouts.

Duncan Tyree pitched five innings in relief for the Bears. Tyree recorded eight strikeouts. 

Butler County scored five runs on 10 hits. Castlen (one hit), Tyree (two hits), Garrett Phelps (two hits, one RBI), Brycen Mode (one hit, one RBI), Malacki Murphy (one hit, two RBIs), Thomas Embry (one hit), Will Amos (one hit), Colt Akers (one hit) and Jay Peralta (one RBI) each delivered offensively for the Bears. Providing an extra-base hit for Butler County, Tyree doubled.
