Bears fall to South Warren
 
BOWLING GREEN - Butler County fell behind early and couldn't recover as South Warren pulled away to win 17-4 in five innings in an early-season high school baseball game on Tuesday.
With the loss, Butler County dropped to 1-2.
South Warren got going offensively early in the game, plating eight runs in in the first inning. The Spartans led 10-0 before Butler County answered with two runs in the top half of the third inning.
Remaining in control, South Warren came back with three runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning to extend its lead again.
After holding Butler County scoreless in the top half of the fifth frame, South Warren notched the win.
South Warren banged out 16 hits in the game. Hunter Evans, Clay Nohel, Tyler Martin, Trent Rice, Sam Gage and Cannon McDaniel all collected multiple hits for the Spartans. Evans went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead South Warren in the hits column. Mason Biggs pitched one inning for the Spartans and earned the win.
Zach Smith worked three innings on the mound for the Bears. Smith allowed 15 hits and 13 runs over three innings, walking one. 
Another Butler County pitcher, Gage Ward, threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
The Bears were limited to six hits. Ross West led the Bears offensively, delivering two hits in three at-bats. 
Ward, Warren Cameron, Parker Rice and Hunter McKee contributed one hit apiece for Butler County in the loss. 
Butler County is slated meet South Warren again in a late-season game May 12.
 
Butler County suffers loss to Franklin-Simpson
 
FRANKLIN  - Butler County doubled up host Franklin-Simpson 4-2 in the hits column but couldn't pull out a win on the road. Franklin-Simpson managed to shut out visiting Butler County 4-0 in an early-season high school baseball game on Monday.
With the loss, Butler County dropped to 1-1.
Franklin-Simpson improved to 3-1 with the win.
The Bears committed three errors in the setback. 
Franklin-Simpson pitcher Rylan Thomas earned the win. Thomas allowed one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out five and walking one.
Zach Sliger started the game on the mound for homestanding Franklin-Simpson. Sliger allowed three hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out eight and walking zero.
Butler County pitcher Ross West took the loss. West worked one inning, allowing one hit and two runs while striking out one and walking one.
Parker Rice started for the Bears on the mound. Rice lasted five innings, allowing one hit and two runs while striking out six.
Franklin-Simpson broke open a scoreless game in the second inning, pushing across two runs. 
Adding to its lead, Franklin-Simpson added two more runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning. 
Franklin-Simpson, a squad out of the neighboring 4th Region, committed only one error. 
The Wildcats landed in the win column following losses to Bowling Green, Warren East and Glasgow.
Accounting for half of Butler County's hits, Gage Ward went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Bears offensively.
West and Hunter McKee added one hit apiece for the Bears in the setback.
Butler County and Franklin-Simpson are due to meet again this season. The Bears are slated to face the Wildcats in another regular-season clash on April 21.
 
Cameron throws no-hitter to lead Bears over Todd County Central
 
MORGANTOWN - Sophomore pitcher Warren Cameron threw a no-hitter as Butler County blanked visiting Todd County Central 11-0 in five innings in a high school baseball season opener on Thursday.
Strong from the opening pitch until his final offering, Cameron recorded eight strikeouts. The Butler County pitcher threw 10 first pitch strikes.
Offensively, Butler County scored 11 runs on 14 hits. Butler County set the tone early and never faltered. 
The Bears moved ahead during their initial at-bat, plating one run in the bottom half of the first inning. 
In a dominant plate appearance, Butler County erupted for seven runs in the home portion of the second inning.
Leading 8-0, Butler County added three more runs in the bottom half of the third inning to push its lead out to a commanding 11-0 advantage. 
Duane Daniels led a balanced Butler County offensive effort, delivering three hits and three RBIs for the Bears. 
Aiding Butler County at the plate, Carter Graham and Gage Ward added two hits apiece while Eli Lewis collected two RBIs.
Struggling defensively, Todd County Central committed six errors. 
Butler County, under the direction of head coach Keith Butler, debuted in its 2018 season opener after compiling a 17-14 record in 2017. 
The Bears are slated to visit Todd County Central for another matchup on April 27.
