BC Drug Task Force activities

The Butler County Drug Free Task Force met on September 20th at the Butler County Educational Complex.  Director Rhonda Vaughn annouced that members of the youth coalition would be filming a commercial to air on WBKO in November.  Alex Gilpin is cordinating the commercial. 
Coalition member Virginia Deweese reported on the WKU Youth Leadership Conference.  Twenty-five students attended the conference. 
Rhonda Vaughn recognized Deweese and Evyn Frazier for their volunteer hours for summer projects for BC Drug Free. 
"We want to thank these young ladies for their time and effort," said Vaughn.
Smoke Free Zone signs were presented to Mayor Billy Phelps for the Charles T. Black City Park by Vaughn and Ali Johnson at September City Council meeting.
Georgetown Police Chief Mike Bosse presented a Power-Point presentation concerning  alcohol, the most widely abused drug.  He shared the effects of alcohol on the brain in individuals under the age of 21 and with the combination of energy drinks and prescription drugs.
" 80,000 deaths per year in the United States is attributed to alcohol abuse... $191 billion is loss in the workplace due to alcohol abuse," said Bosse.
According to Bosse, speaking to your child about drugs, four times a year for 30 seconds, significantly increases their resiliency to not use drugs.
