Andy enjoys the Beach Boys @SKYPAC

Thursday, July 23, I went to the SKYPAC to see the legendary Beach Boys.  From “Surfin’ Safari”, “God Only Knows” to “Surfer Girl” and “I Get Around”, they sang quite a bit of their stellar 54 year career.  Hard to believe they are still together since they formed in California in 1961, 18 years before I was born.

Along with their own many hits, they covered the Mamas and the Papas’ 1965 hit “California Dreamin’”, which thrilled the sold-out crowd.  I won’t even attempt to name all the hits they performed during their two and a half hour performance.  I will say that it was virtually non-stop, save a few breaks to intro a song here and there.  The nonstop pace reminded me of the John Fogerty show I saw in Nashville a few years ago.

Two of the originals, Bruce Johnston (73) and Mike Love (74), were onstage.  The concert was pretty fantastic.  What made it even more so was meeting up with my best friend.  When tickets went on sale, we were in constant contact to make sure all our seats (my family and she and her husband) were together.  Friends really make everything better.

Thanks to Independence Bank and partners.  This was, after all, the Sounds of Independence concert.  WBKO’s Chris Allen, was our emcee for the evening.  Radio personality Kellie McKay was there as well.  It was a local star-studded night! There were most certainly “Good Vibrations” coming from the SKYPAC on this night.
