4-H News: Kentucky Forest Leadership Program

By: Lloyd G. Saylor, County Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development

Are you interested in the environment and want to know more about forests, trees, insects, water and wildlife? Then you will want to attend the Kentucky Forest Leadership Program. Students that participate in this hands-on week-long program will get the opportunity to explore the many aspects of our forests as well as learn about college degrees and career options.

The Kentucky Forest Leadership Program offers three different educational tracks: Forestry, Entomology and Wildlife. While choosing a track provides the student the opportunity to experience a concentrated program, the three tracks will work together just like real-life natural resource experts throughout the week. The students will be taught and mentored by resource professionals from the University of Kentucky’s Departments of Forestry, Entomology and Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, the Kentucky Division of Forestry and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

Students may be eligible for a scholarship. For more information concerning scholarships, contact Mark Davis of the Kentucky Division of Conservation at (502) 564-2320 ext. 739.

If you would like a brochure about this program that is being held June 4-9, 2017 for junior and seniors in high school then please come by the Butler County Extension Office to pick one up. Here is the link to the website https://kflp.ca.uky.edu/ .
