205 Terrapins race; Jaden Jenkins, Henry McKinney, and Sally Butler take top prizes

Approximately 205 terrapins squared off before a large crowd of spectators at the Eva J. Hawes building on Tuesday, July 4, for the annual Green River Catfish Festival Terrapin Race. When the dust had finally settled, Jaden Jenkins’ terrapin had taken the top prize; Henry McKinney’s terrapin finished second; and Sally Butler’s terrapin took the third spot.

There were 12 heat races and one final race featuring the top finisher from each one of the heat races. Heat race winners received $15 for first, $10 for second and $5 for third. The overall winner received $35, second place was $25, and third place was $20.

Jeff Jennings served as emcee for the event. Terrapin race sponsors are Cassia Lodge #272 F&AM, Beech Tree News, Jones Monument Company, Butler County Shrine Club, and Henderson Land Surveying.
