15th Annual "Toys for Tots"

On Wednesday, December 16, the 15th annual "Toys for Tots" drive opened its doors to local residents. Thanks to a multitude of local sponsors, Christmas gifts were distributed to the 430 children that had been signed up.  The program is coordinated by the Bulter County Family Resource Center (F.R.C.), the Butler County Youth Service Center, and the Morgantown Mission.

According to Daisy Bishop, F.R.C. Coordinator, families signed up to participate in the Toys for Tots each year, representing 430 children in Butler County.   Applications from in county residents only were accepted. In addition several families are adopted by businesses, families, churches, and individuals.  TVA employees adopted families this year and provided their Christmas, according to Bishop. The employees have fund raising throughout the year to provide this gift to Toys for Tots.

Volunteers assisted shoppers, wrapped presents, and helped park cars.

“We try to help families in need so children will have a better Christmas,” said Karla Coles, YSC Coordinator.

The event was held in an open room within the Butler County Learning Center. Coffee and donuts were served to those waiting in line. The attendees were led into the large open room where the toys were placed and organized by age group and gender. 2 toys were granted per child, along with 1 game per family, 1 book per child, a warm clothing item, and 2 stocking items per child.
