Bears, Tigers prep for Friday Night Lights in BCHS Homecoming game

Butler County (1-1) will look to get back in the winning column on Friday night when the Fighting Tigers of Breckinridge County (0-3) make the long, winding trek to Morgantown.  Breck is off to a tough start with lopsided losses to Meade County (41-0), McLean County (42-10) and Adair County (52-0).  The Bears defeated Logan County 41-0 in its first game.  Following a bye during week two, Butler dropped a 35-6 decision to Russellville last week.

"Breck is a solid football team with a good core returning from last season. They are a multiple style offense that will run some spread option, throw the ball deep, and then line up with a double tight wishbone look. They use two quarterbacks effectively with one being a little better of a runner and the other a little better thrower," said BCHS Head Coach Ryan Emmick.  "Defensively, they run a 4-4 cover three and we expect to see them tighten down their alignment on our slot receivers as they have done in the past."

Coach Emmick believes the performance of special teams may be a deciding factor in the outcome of the game.

"This is a game that could be won with special teams play.  We must continue to execute in all three phases of the game and focus on getting fresh bodies on the field.  We have to improve our kicking game, both on kickoffs and on extra points.  We are going to try some new things there that will hopefully benefit us," said Emmick.  "Field position will be a key aspect of the game.  We must make them have to drive the entire field to score.  Giving our offense great field position puts us in position to score and cuts down on opportunities for mistakes."

The coach likes the intensity his team has shown in its first two outings and he hopes to build on that against Breck on Friday.

"We must come out with the fire and passion on defense the way we have the previous two games.  Coach (Brandon) Embry and Coach (Brian) Bivens have done a great job getting our guys in the correct position to be successful on defense.  We are rallying 11 hats to the football and forcing turnovers.  That must continue Friday night," said Emmick.

The Bears must keep working hard to put points on the board, according to Emmick.  "Offensively we have to continue to improve our execution.  We have are strong in our run game and we have to continue to utilize it to wear our opponents down.  Our mindset is to attack for four quarters of football and to stretch the field.  To do that, we have to improve upon our execution and doing the little things correctly," said Emmick.

Friday night is slated to be a busy one at Butler County with homecoming festivities set to begin at 6:20 p.m. with the "Parade of Cars" as both team continue warm-ups.  At approximately 6:30 p.m., homecoming candidates and court will be announced as teams leave the field.  Both teams will return at 6:50 p.m. with the National Anthem shortly afterwards.  Following the coin toss and team meeting, kickoff is set for 7 p.m.  The Morgantown Bank & Trust Pre-Game Show will start at 6:30 p.m.  The game will be aired  live on WLBQ - The New "Q" 101.5 FM.  John Embry will be doing the play-by-play along with Josh Scott on color commentary and Coach Cody Donaldson with full game-time stats.
