BCMS Softball races to a 12-3-1 start at season midpoint
With roughly half the season under its belt, the Butler County Middle School Bears' softball team has notched an impressive 12-3-1 record through its first 16 games. The BCMS "B" team stands at 6-2 with some impressive come-from-behind wins.
The Bears - both teams - have been relatively consistent in all three aspects of the game - pitching, hitting and defense.
8th grade pitchers Avery Gleason and Cheani Schroeder have led the way in the circle with Gleason logging most of the pitching time, while Schroeder has handled the shortstop position prior to an injury that has sidelined her for the last two weeks.
Madison Clark (.533, 22 RBIs), MacKenzie Coleman (.436, 20 RBIs), and Avery Gleason (.422, 19 RBIs) have paced the Bears' offensive efforts. Others with batting averages over .300 are Taylor Raymer (.324, 11 RBIs), Cheani Schroeder (.391, 4 RBIs), and Karlee Cameron (.378, 10 RBIs).
Defensively, Clark has caught the majority of games with Cameron and Coleman getting opportunities as well. Clark has recently been at short and Coleman catching with Schroeder's injury. Cameron is the regular third baseman and Coleman had been the regular centerfielder.
Taylor Raymer at first base and Addison Miller at second base have been steady players on the right side of the field. Jalyn Embry, Mia Thomas, and Shelby Parrigan have all logged time in the outfield at various position. Cheyanne Elmore has been in the offensive line-up, played some outfield and has played first base during "B" games.
Other players contributing during "B" games are Lola Clark, Johnna Cox, Skylar Schroeder, Mackenzie Tyree, and Lydia Brown. Lydia Decker and McKenna Lindsey were injured early in the season and have seem limited action. Sadie Jensen was also injured and is just now returning from the disabled list.
The team is coached by John Embry, James White, Colten Cardwell, Brent Clark and Amy Rogers.
