The 3rd Annual Stan England Charity Golf Scramble will be held this Saturday at The Golf Course at Riverview in Bowling Green. All proceeds from the event will go to fund the Boys & Girls Club of Butler County.

Stan England was the former director of the Boys & Girls Club of Butler County before stepping down. The golf scramble is England’s way of continuing to help the Club. According to Director Bruce White the Golf Scramble is one of the Club’s largest fundraisers. He said last year the event helped raise around $10,000, which puts it at about the same level as the Boys & Girls Club Radio Auction, and March Gladness, the Club’s basketball themed event held annually at the Cool Springs General Baptist Church. The Club’s largest fundraiser each year is their banquet, which brings in around $15,000.

The tournament is open to any golfer, regardless of skill level. Golfers can create their own four-man team—based on handicaps—or can be placed on teams by the event organizers. The first place team this year will receive $500, with $300 going to second place, and $200 for third place. Prizes will also be given for the first hole-in-one on holes #2 and #9, and for closest to the pin on par threes, and longest drive on hole #8. There will also be random prize drawings, and breakfast and lunch will be served.

Special recognition will be given this year to an honorary foursome. The honorees are Mary Tincher—a longtime Club supporter and donor, Marshall Hughes—who has supported the Club with various efforts, Tom Jones from Morgantown Bank & Trust—another longtime supporter of the Club, and James Runion, President of the Club’s Board of Directors.

The tourney starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, with a shotgun start. The starting shot will be fired by Morgantown Chief of Police Charles Swiney.
