Ruby Mae Engler Givens

Ruby Givens, 80,  of Morgantown, passed away on Thursday, October 18,2012, at Morgantown Care and Rehab.  She was a Butler County native, born on May 13, 1932 to the late Herbert and Anna "Sal" Givens Engler and was the wife of the late Raymond Givens who she married on April 21, 1947.  Raymond and Ruby were blessed with four children, 3 daughters and 1 son.

Ruby became a Christian at an early age and was baptized into the membership of Union Missionary Baptist Church in 1978.   Ruby helped feed thousands of Butler County children  during her nearly 25 years of cooking with the Butler County School System Food Service.  She began working at Boston School in 1969 and retired from Morgantown Elementary in 1994.  She also farmed and milked cows.  Ruby was happiest when she was working.  She loved to cook, garden, can and freeze her harvests and quilt.  She also enjoyed mowing with her push mower. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Daddy Herbert and Mama Sal Engler, husband of 61 years Raymond Givens, father in- law Arlie Givens, sisters Earline Pendley and Lucy Berg and brother Claudie "Bub" Engler, sons in-law Vendl Phelps and Junior Lee. 

Ruby is survived by three daughters:  Gale Phelps of Morgantown, Pat Givens of Alvaton, and Fran Belcher and husband Joe of Sharer, one son Tommy Givens and wife Lisa of Alvaton; Grandchildren Tammy Dotson and husband Alan of Morgantown, Daren Phelps of Morgantown, BJ Belcher and wife Emily of Sharer, Clint Belcher and wife Nikki of Sharer, Ryan Givens of Bowling Green, Nathan Givens of Bowling Green, and Cole Eason of Alvaton. Great Grandchildren:  Thaddeus Dotson, Kirstin Phelps, Maggie Grace Dotson and Clayton Martin all of Morgantown and Rachel Phelps of North Carolina.  One Great Great Grandson Colten Phelps.  Two Sisters:  Faye Pendley and Joyce Hudnall both of Morgantown and several nieces and nephews.   
                   
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 20 at Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Roger Skipworth and Bro. Jim McDaniel officiating.  Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, October 19 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Saturday, October 20 from 8:00 am until funeral time at the Smith Funeral Home.

One of God's most faithful servants and one of the worls's best cooks went Home. She set a standard for us all to follow in devotion to family and love for her Maker. Condolences to her family and fans.
