Red Cross visits March Chamber Luncheon

The Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce held its monthly luncheon on Thursday, March 27. This months luncheon was sponsored by C&L Used Cars, Butler County Farm Bureau, Hidden Valley, Blackhawk Composites, Logan Telephone Cooperative, Green River Feed Mill, Building Bridges 4 Life, and Smith Funeral Home. Guest speaker was Jennifer Capps of the American Red Cross regarding disaster preparedness.

The event began with Chamber President James Runion individually thanking each sponsor. He also reminded Chamber members that the time to renew memberships is drawing nigh.

Following this, Jennifer Capps of the American Red Cross began a presentation regarding disasters and how being prepared can prevent unnecessary detriments to businesses and communities.

The American Red Cross has devised a system known as the "Ready Rating," which interprets results of a 129-point questionnaire to provide you with a quantitative report detailing the "preparedness" of your business, school, or organization. The questionnaire conforms with the federal government's Private Sector Preparedness standards and is available at no cost. The Ready Rating system is founded on 5 essential steps; commit to preparedness, conduct a hazard vulnerability assessment, develop an emergency response plan, implement your response plan, and the final is to help the community be prepared.

Capps also reminded the guests of the Red Cross mobile applications, which include: First Aid, Flood, Tornado, Earthquake, Wildfire, Hurricane, Team Red Cross, Shelter Finder, Swim, and Pet First Aid.
