Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Summer is the time of year when I try to get home maintenance projects completed. I always have a list, and every year the list is way too long. Although it’s late July, I haven’t come close to completing my list of projects. But, I’m not giving up. We still have several weeks of summer remaining!

Hoping to find others who also have unfinished summer projects, I did an informal survey. I asked friends and family if they have any unfinished or planned-but-not-yet-started summer projects. Their replies are below:
•    Clean out the basement and pave the driveway.
•    Find new pot/plants for the front step, paint the front door, new shutters for the workshop, and paint the concrete on the patio. I could go on and on. Lots of time, sufficient money, but no initiative. I’m blaming the rain and now the hot weather (…and then the snow!).
•    Oh, gosh! I have a thousand! Put gravel down, seal and stain the deck, level the yard, and hang curtain rods. I could give you more….
•    More than I can name! Working on three quilts and placemats for church bazaar. Front door needs painting, gutter needs some repair. There’s enough to keep me busy!
•    Wash all my glassware. My china and carnival glass really need to be cleaned. I try to do it once a year. Haven’t gotten to it yet.
•    Clean my room!
•    Deep cleaning my patio and patio furniture! They are so dirty and sad looking! I have been meaning to give everything a “face lift” for summer but haven’t seemed to have the chance yet.
•    We always have unfinished projects! Cause it’s hot, and I’m lazy!
•    Build garden spots.
•    Clean and organize the laundry room.
•    Sure. I make my lists on notebook paper, and I make one every year. Few things get done. Carry-over items are many from year to year. I have a lot of notebook paper, simply said. As I get older, the completion of the list becomes less important. I plan to put the lists in my will … revenge.
•    I will never get my projects to do done!
•    Clean out the laundry room and reorganize the basement.
•    Yes, things around the house! Clean the oven, the fridge, clean out the hall closet, and help my sweet husband with the list on the fridge that I made for him (And, the garage has to be organized by fall break before cold weather.).

I don’t feel too bad now about my not-yet-started summer projects. I’ll tackle the ones I can complete; the other tasks can be moved to next summer’s list. After all, summer is a time to get outside and enjoy the weather, right?
