OCSO Investigation leads to guns for drugs plot, arrest, search for suspect

On September 30, 2014 the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office received a call for service in reference to a burglary that took place in the 100 block of Church Street in Rockport, Kentucky. The victim stated handguns, rifles, shotguns, and jewelry were taken from the residence.
The initial investigation revealed the possibility of a white Ford Ranger being involved in the incident. OCSO detectives began a search for the vehicle, but it was ultimately found by an OCSO deputy who lives in Butler County.
On October 08, 2014 Deputy Rodney McMillin was able to locate the suspect vehicle in the 400 block of North Main in Morgantown, Kentucky. The owner of the vehicle was identified as Christopher D. Bartley, 50, of the 400 block of North Main Street in Morgantown. OCSO detectives made contact with the Morgantown Police Department, Kentucky Probation Parole, and Butler County Sheriff’s Office for assistance. Officers were able to develop enough probable cause to obtain a search warrant for Mr. Bartley’s residence later that evening.
Once inside, officers located the jewelry taken in the Rockport burglary. Detectives were able to obtain additional information which led them to believe the firearms were transported to the Bowling Green, Kentucky area. Detectives learned the weapons were being exchanged for large quantities of crystal methamphetamine. Mr. Bartley was taken into custody and charged with one (1) count of Burglary 1st Degree.
On October 09, 2014 OCSO detectives made contact with members of the ATF, FBI, and the Warren County Drug Task Force. OCSO detectives met with their counterparts in Bowling Green, Kentucky and conducted surveillance of an individual believed to be responsible for swapping weapons for methamphetamine.
On October 10, 2014 the investigation led authorities to a storage unit located in the city of Bowling Green. Inside, detectives found fifteen (15) rifles and one (1) handgun that were originally stolen in the Rockport burglary. Additional information was obtained which lead federal authorities to believe some of the handguns were transported to the Chicago, Illinois area where they were traded for crystal methamphetamine. That investigation is ongoing and being handled by the ATF and FBI.
In the meantime, OCSO detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for Angela M. Sublett, 44, who is believed to be involved in the Rockport burglary. She is described as a white female, approximately 5’ 03” tall, weighing approximately 110 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. Anyone with information on her whereabouts should contact the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office at 270-298-4444.
