North Butler Elementary 1st annual Kindergarten Readiness Fair a Great Success

Incoming Kindergarten students and their parents were invited April 16th to North Butler Elementary to participate in the 1st annual Readiness Fair.  42 incoming kindergarten students enrolled and 76 parents showed up to prepare for the upcoming educational journey that awaits them.  The Fair included informational booths (FRC, Barren River Health Department, Library Media, a guest speaker (Dr. Amy Hood), educational activities stations and recreational inflatables.  The Butler County Family Resource and Youth Services provided hotdogs, chips and drinks for all students and parents who signed in to the event.

Mr. Josh Belcher, Principal of NBES welcomed all parents to the informational session of the event.  He spoke of the loving faculty, students and community that walk through the doors of NBES each and every day, and introduced the staff that will be working with their kids. He wrapped up by giving out his cellphone and other contact information letting the parents know that he was there for their child and encouraged open communications between them.  The parents were treated to a 20 minute informational session with Dr. Amy Hood (Butler County Schools - Board Member, co-chair of Butler-Edmonson Community Early Childhood Council, Director of WKU Child Care Resource and Referral). She shared various strategies, thoughts, statistics and resources they may consider in preparing their child to be successful as they begin school in August.  To conclude the night, Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Cindy Embry also shared some information on kindergarten readiness.

"I am very proud of the turnout for this event.  I want to thank those who helped with the event: Brandi Smith- Butler County FRC, Lori Raeuchle- Barren River Health Department, Dr. Amy Hood- WKU, as well as my kindergarten staff and office administrational staff. We have such a great community of people here in North Butler and anytime we open our doors for such events I am blown away by the participation and support.  My goal for the event was to give parents resources, activities and the support they need to help ensure that their child will have a successful start to school.  With this and the combination of our great pre-school program, OWL Academy and our tremendous veteran kindergarten staff I feel very confident that these children are ensured a great foundation for a life of learning.  I also hope this night helped relieve the anxiety of the 1st day of kindergarten for the students and parents.,"  Josh Belcher, Principal North Butler Elementary
