"My Roots Are In Butler County"

Jessica Moon, one of the event's organizers.

The first Butler County Genealogical Homecoming Event was held on Saturday at the Green River Museum in Woodbury, Kentucky.  According to Jessica Moon, one of the organizers, the event all started with a couple of people on a facebook page who wanted to make a gathering so everyone could meet.

The facebook page is called “My Roots Are in Butler County Kentucky.” The page is reaching close to 1500 members that share photos, stories, memories, and ask/answer questions concerning their genealogical research.

Moon and Roger Givens, Butler County Historian and author, organized Saturday’s event.  Butler County Judge Executive David Fields welcomed everyone, praised the rich history of Butler County and the Green River Museum.
“Don’t be surprised if you find out we are all related one way or another,” added Fields.

Moon stretched a tree with many branches and visitors were asked to put their ink finger print on the tree.
“Like the branches we may grow in many different directions, but our roots remain firmly in the ground and will keep us together, forever.  I love my Butler County, Kentucky Family,” said Moon.

The group spent the day scanning pictures, sharing information, and exploring their Butler County roots.

The Butler County Chapter and Green River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution assisted visitors with information and research.  Several members of the group will be staying the week in Butler County doing research at the Butler County Courthouse.
