MPD nets two local drug-related arrests; gets info leading to two others

Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest-On Saturday, September 20, 2014, at approximately 3:20 a.m., Morgantown Police Officer James Embry arrested David Couch on drug charges as a result of a traffic stop in the 700 block of West G.L. Smith Street.  Couch was stopped on a traffic violation and after giving consent to search, Officer Embry found methamphetamine in small clear plastic bags and three empty plastic bags.
Couch was arrested and lodged in the Butler County Jail and charged with expired Kentucky registration plate, failure of non-owner to have required insurance, DUI (drugs) 1st offense and trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine).
The Butler County Sheriff's Department also assisted in the traffic stop.


Through investigation, Officer Embry received information regarding drug activity at a location in Muhlenberg County.  After notifying the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force of the information, a search warrant was executed in the 2700 block of Harps Hill Road in Muhlenberg County.
Seized in the execution of the search warrant were 34 gram of methamphetamine, $1,294 in U.S. currency, a handgun, and an unknown amount of marijuana.
Arrested as a result of the search warrant were Jason Campbell and Danielle Welborn, both of Muhlenberg County.  Both were lodged in the Muhlenberg County Detention Center.  Campbell and Welborn were charged with trafficking in controlled substance first degree methamphetamine over 2 grams enhanced by a firearm, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  Two small children were removed from the residence as well.  One child belonged to Welborn and the other belonged to another individual.
Other agencies involved were Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force, Muhlenberg County Sheriff Office and the Kentucky State Police.

Drug Arrest on Natcher-Officer Denny Deweese responded to a call in reference to a subject walking in the middle of the South Bound Lane of the William Natcher Parkway on September 17, at 10:44pm.  According to the citation, upon arrival Ofc. Deweese found Lynsie Nicole Barks (DOB 7/30/79) unsteady on her feet and her pupils were "pin-pointed."  Officer Deweese conducted the field sobriety test, which Barks failed. Located in Barks’ front pocket was a Tylenol pill bottle containing four Zanax pills and one oxycodone.
Barks was lodged in the Butler County Jail and charged with public intoxication controlled substance, prescription controlled substance not in original container (1st degree) and possession of a controlled substance.
