MCRC Presentation Focuses on 150 Years of Fashion

Sandra Staebell, Museum Registrar and Collections Curator at WKU, kept the undivided attention of the ladies at a well attended presentation in the MCRC lobby Wednesday afternoon. Staebell, a speaker courtesy of the WKU speaker’s bureau spoke on,”The Kentucky Clothes Closet: 150 Years of Fashionable Dressing.”

The presentation came complete with many slides showing how fashions have changed. Those changes were separated, in general, by decades of time. The result was a stirring of memories. One example was a remark by Ruth Keown near the end when she recalled that her grandmother, in the year 1910, was a seamstress.

After showing samples of a variety of undergarments including corsets, drawers and even a bustle, Staebell summed up by saying, “aren’t we glad we live in 2013.” Even more discussion of the topic was heard in the lobby after the dinner meal.
