Lady Warriors named JV State Runners-Up; Warriors fall short in the first round

Hannah Burden and Delaney Cooper were named JV Girls All-Tournament.

Thursday night the Lady Warriors came out ready to battle as they faced Immaculata.  Immaculata turned up the heat on the Lady Warriors early in the game but they could not handle the pressure of the determined Oak Ridge team and were put under by the Lady Warriors.  The Lady Warriors pulled out of the first round with a final score of 43 -10.

Friday night the JV boys were in action against the Cornerstone Bulldogs.  The Bulldogs had intensity on defense and the Warriors struggled to find their place in the game during the first quarter.  Trenton Cooper opened the game with a 3 point basket as the Warriors were trying to build their momentum. The Warriors ended the first quarter with a score of 11-15.  The Warriors came back out in the second quarter ready to play.  They defensively shut down Cornerstone holding them to only 3 points during the quarter.  The Warriors scored several points from the Bulldogs turnovers with fast breaks and foul shots from Cade Crowder and Cory Mason.  They went into the half leading the game 27-18.  The third quarter the Warriors once again struggled to find their game.  The Bulldogs outscored the Warriors 15 – 5 and all intensity was winding down.  Oak Ridge now had a 1 point deficit going into the fourth quarter at 32-33.  It wasn’t until the middle of the fourth quarter that the Oak Ridge Warriors started to make a comeback but the Bulldogs never let go.   Time was running out as the Warriors started to regain their momentum but it was too late.  The Warriors lost their first round game in the JV State Tournament against Cornerstone with a final score of 42 – 46.

Cade Crowder was named JV Boys All-Tournament for Oak Ridge.

After Thursday night’s win for the Lady Warriors they were sitting in the Final Four against the Bluegrass Baptist Eagles on Saturday to play for a spot in the Championship game.  Gabby Harris started the game with fire as she sank three 3 point baskets along with another 2 points to give the Lady Warriors their first 11 points of the game and a nice lead against the Bluegrass Eagles.  The Eagles wasn’t going to give the Lady Warriors an easy win and fought hard the entire game. Defense was a strength for the Lady Warriors throughout the whole game as Hannah Burden pulled out steal after steal to help Oak Ridge maintain the lead.  The Lady Warriors ended the game with as much passion as they had started with and pulled out a 56-43 victory of the Bluegrass Eagles.  They were now on their way to play for a championship title later that evening.

The Lady Warriors were now sitting in the Championship game against the #1 seed Danville Christian Warriors.  Jasmine Alford led the Lady Warriors in their first 8 points of the game but Danville Christian was not going to give them an easy fight for the championship.  Defense was still a prominent feature for the Lady Warriors as Jasmine Alford and Gracie Clark dominated the rebounding and Hannah Burden pulled out the steals. The score kept swaying between the two teams during the first half but the Lady Warriors pulled out a lead to go into halftime with a 21-19 score.  During the third quarter, the Lady Warriors lost their lead and Danville quickly played up to their #1 position.  Though the girls never gave up their fight, they came up short at the end of the game with a 31 -37 defeat and the title of KCAA JV State Runners-Up. Hannah Burden and Delaney Cooper were named JV Girls All-Tournament.
