Happy 90th Birthday Mrs. Helen

Helen Reid Gidcumb Smith

Come join us in celebrating the 90th birthday of our mother Helen Reid Gidcumb Smith on October 4,2015  at the Eva Hawes pavilion from 1:30 to 4:30.  There will be a potluck dinner served.  No gift please.  Helen is the daughter of the late Nettie Ayers Jones,  Robert Gidcumb, and step father Stanley Jones, sister to Robert Elan Gidcumb, deceased, and Emma Jean Gidcumb Matthis, deceased. 

She was born in Butler County in the Pitcher Hill community, moved to California in her youth and lived in the Vista-Chula Vista area until her teen years when Pearl Harbor was bombed her mother decided it would be safer for her and sister Jean to return to Butler County where she met and married Pete, remaining here for the rest of her life.  Helen, along with her husband Dewey Lee “Pete” Smith have been stalwarts in the community of Morgantown and Butler County.  She is a housewife, mother and a business partner to her husband Dewey Lee, in their various business endeavors.  She loves to cook and sew.  She has sewn cheerleader uniforms and majorette uniforms for her daughters and their friends.  She made her 6 children’s clothing while they were growing up.  She is an avid reader and loves to paint. She and her husband are parents of LoRei DeWeese, husband Danny; Gaylene Johnson, husband Laymon; Joanna Embry,husband Bobby; Jerelym Muth; Lee Smith ,wife Marisa and  Margina Russell , husband Benn and foster mother of Wayne Ashley, wife Lana. She is the grandmother of 20 grand children and 3 step grand children and great grandmother of 52, great great of 8.  She also has several nieces and nephews and is the adopted mother of many of her children’s friends.   She is an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were she has served as president of the Kentucky West District Primary, president of both the Morgantown Relief Society and Primary Auxillaries and was the first Seminary Teacher for the Morgantown unit.  Her main focus in her life is her 92 year old husband, her church and her family as well as her little poodle “Honey” and two yellow cats, “Polly and Dolly”.  Come by and wish her a happy birthday.
