Gaskey Honored At OVC Banquet

UPDATE: May 7, 2015 GaskeyNamed Academic All-District  by Capital One

Seniors Alexa Becker and CheyAnne Gaskey and sophomore Jessica Twaddle were named as Academic All-District Softball selections by Capital One Thursday, as  selected by CoSIDA.

Murray State led the way in District 2 with the most selections of any school, beating out Kentucky and Louisville, who followed with two each. The trio’s selection marks the third consecutive season that at least one Racer has been received the honor. Becker and Gaskey were the program’s first honorees in 2013, followed by Leslie Bridges last season.

Gaskey won a program single-season record 19 games this season en route to her first All-OVC honor. A marketing major in her first semester of graduate school, finished her undergraduate career with a .395 cumulative GPA. She is the only pitcher in program history to win 50-plus games and is the all-time leader in wins, saves, ERA and strikeouts.

All three players are now eligible to be named to one of three Capital One Academic All-American teams on May 29.

Former Butler County High School softball standout CheyAnne Gaskey was honored on Tuesday night at the OVC Awards Banquet in Edwardsville, Illinois.  The winningest pitcher in Murray State history and the only to win 50-plus games, Gaskey set a school-record by winning 18 games in 2015 to go along with a team-low ERA of 2.68. The school’s all-time strikeout leader mowed down 122 batters this season, while limiting her opposition to a .248 average.

Sophomore first baseman Jessica Twaddle was named as the 2015 OVC Player of the Year and was one of five Racers to earn All-Conference honors. Joining Twaddle on the first team was sophomore third baseman Maggie Glass, while three seniors, shortstop Alexa Becker, pitcher CheyAnne Gaskey and outfielder Mo Ramsey, were named to the second team.
The honors were the first of their careers for Glass and Gaskey, while Twaddle, Ramsey and Becker had previously earned OVC accolades. Twaddle was an All-Newcomer selection last season, while Becker was named to the second team in 2013. Ramsey began her career by being named to the All-Newcomer team in 2012 and followed that up last season with a first team nod.
