Farmers in Butler County can sign-up for the Livestock Indemnity Program

Morgantown, KY, April21, 2014- The Butler County Farm Service Agency is currently conducting sign-up for the Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP) to eligible producers who suffered losses in calendar year 2012.

LIP provides compensation to eligible livestock producers who have suffered livestock death losses in excess of normal mortality due to adverse weather and attacks by animals reintroduced into the wild by the federal government or protected by federal law, including wolves and avian predators. LIP payments are equal to 75 percent ofthe market value of the applicable livestock
on the day before the date of death ofthe livestock as determined by the Secretary of Agriculture.

Eligible livestock includes: Beef cattle, Dairy cattle, Bison, Poultry, Sheep, Swine, and horses and other livestock as determined by the Secretary of Agriculture

Applicants must provide adequate proof that the eligible livestock deaths occurred as a direct result of an eligible adverse weather event for which benefits are being requested. The quantity and kind of livestock that died as a direct result of the eligible disaster event may be documented by: purchase records, veterinarian records, bank or other loan documents, rendering truck receipts or certificates, Federal Emergency Management Agency records, National Guard records, written contracts, production records, records assembled for tax purposes, property tax records, private insurance documents, and similar documents.
