Execution of Search Warrants Results in Recovery of Stolen Property and Arrest

On Tuesday, January 5, 2016, Officer James Embry, Sgt. Denny Deweese and Chief Charles Swiney of the Morgantown Police Department executed search warrants at two different locations in Butler County.  The search warrants were obtained as a result of evidence discovered during the investigation of the numerous thefts from vehicles and burglaries that have occurred over the past month.  One search warrant was executed in Butler County and the other was executed within the city limits of Morgantown.
The first search warrant resulted in the arrest of John Chapman, 18, of Morgantown, property stolen from a burglary the police department is investigating, synthetic marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  Chapman was charged with receiving stolen property over $300, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of synthetic marijuana and lodged in the Butler County Jail.
The second search warrant resulted in locating stolen property from a burglary that occurred over the New Year holiday.  Charges are pending against four (4) juveniles.
