Edeth Jewell (Taylor) Mudd

Edeth Jewell (Taylor) Mudd, 102, gracefully passed away on July 26th, 2015 at the Springview Health Center.  She was an 82 year resident of the Ready community and Caneyville, Kentucky.

Miss Jewell was born in Butler County, Kentucky on September 15th, 1912, as the older of two daughters of J. Luther and Catherine (Woosley) Taylor.  Her childhood was spent in Louisville, Kentucky where she graduated from Shawnee High School in 1932.  She married Raymond L. Mudd in 1937 and they settled in Caneyville.  Both she and Raymond taught school before taking over the Taylor Family Store which they operated for more than twenty-three years.  Miss Jewell served as the Ready, KY Post Master for twenty-two years operating the post office from the Raymond L. Mudd General Store.

Both Jewell and Raymond were active members of the Caney Creek United Baptist Church and she was a member of the Grand Chapter of Kentucky Order of the Eastern Star and served in numerous leadership roles.  Miss Jewell also enjoyed family reunions, gardening, sewing and she dearly loved her traditional church hymns.

Jewell Mudd is survived by her daughter, Kathlyn Mudd Thomas (Joe) of Alabama; her grandchildren, Tammi Mischelle Thomas-Smith (Gary) of Alabama and Joe H. Thomas, Jr. of California.  Miss Jewell had one great-granddaughter, Rachel Givens.  Mrs. Mudd was pre-deceased by her husband, Raymond L. Mudd; her sister, Doris (Taylor) Cooper and her parents, J.L. and Catherine Taylor.

A visitation for Mrs. Mudd will be held at 1 pm, Wednesday, July 29th, 2015 at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville, KY.  A graveside service will follow at 2:30 pm at the Layman Memorial Cemetery in Millwood, Kentucky.
