Dockery Develops Coursework For Bluegrass Music Degree

Brescia University in Owensboro, Kentucky is developing a Bachelor's of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Bluegrass Music. Brescia is partnering with Owensboro Community and Technological College in a two by two degree program. Student's can go two years to OTC an receive a associates degree in Bluegrass Music and then can transfer all their credits to Brescia and do two more years of course work and receive a BFA in Bluegrass Music.
Darryl Dockery has been hired by Brescia to develop the course work for the new program. Mr. Dockery has been working for Brescia since his retirement from the Butler County School System back in 2012. OTC and Brescia are working with the International Bluegrass Music Museum in developing this program. The IBMM is currently finalizing construction of a new museum in downtown Owensboro. The museum will have a performance stage and a recording studio that Brescia and OTC will be able to use for courses in performance and recording classes.
"We will be offering many courses that will prepare those students who are interested in the music business, whether it be as a performer, producer, management, or recording engineer," said Dockery. One of the biggest Bluegrass festivals in the world is Owensboro's ROMP which is held every summer. Some of the biggest names in Bluegrass and country music perform in this massive summer music festival.
"We are planning to have many of these artists to do master classes for people that are interested," added Dockery. There will also be classes on song writing and instruction on all traditional Bluegrass instruments.
