Compassionate Friends Candle Lighting Service

On Sunday, December 14, the Butler County Chapter of the Compassionate Friends held their 6th annual meeting.  The event began with a welcome given by Debbie Young, Chapter Leader, she also explained the Compassionate Friends Program. Following this, the Compassionate Friends Credo was read by Kenneth Young. Teresa Johnson shared memories of her daughter, Jordan  and identified with the group, underlining the importance of fellowship and help from the community . Debbie Young introduced the guest speaker, Jim Green., Founder of Building Bridges 4 Life. Green reinforced the paradigm that coming together is the best way to carry on living. He reminded everyone that they should live for the living but never forget those that are no longer with us. "I am humbled and honored to be among friends," said Green. The lighting of the memorial candles was led by Kenneth Young..

A series of 5 candles were then lit to underscore 5 principals that govern the acceptance of the loss of a loved one. These 5 categories include grief, courage, memories, love, and hope. The hope candle was a bit longer than the remaining four to signify the elevated importance of retaining hope for the future following the loss of a loved one. The guests then lined up with small individual candles to light them in memory of those that have passed. Jeremy Camp presented an animated presentation in memoriam of those same lost ones. Closing remarks and announcements were then given by Debbie Young.

Compassionate Friends meet on the first Thursday of each month at the Morgantown Mission building at 6:00pm.  For more information contact Chapter Leader Debbie Young at 270 526-5321 or visit www.compassionatefriends.org
