A tight Republican race for governor across the state didn't translate to a close one in Butler County.  Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner James Comer (Lt. Gov. candidate Chris McDaniel) easily carried Butler County with almost 58 percent of the vote.  Lousiville buisnessman Matt Bevin (Lt. Gov. candidate Jenean Hampton) received 287 votes (23 percent); former Louisville City Council member Hal Heiner (Lt. Gov. candidate K.C. Crosbie) was a distant third with 160 votes (13 percent); and former Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Will T. Scott (Lt. Gov. candidate Rodney Coffey) garnered 69 votes (5.6 percent).  Total number of votes cast in Butler County were 1,45o, or approximately 15.8 percent of eligible voters.
Statewide, Bevin appears to have edged out Comer by the ultra-slim margin of 83 votes.  Bevin received 70,479 votes to Comer's 70,396.  Heiner tallied 57,948 votes and Scott finished with 15,364.  Comer has officially requested a recanvass of votes due to the small margin separating the two candidates.  According to Kentucky Secretary of state Alison Grimes, county boards of elections across the state will meet to conduct the recanvass at 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, per Kentucky law.  Barring a change in the outcome of the race, Republican Matt Bevin will face off against Democrat Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway in the November General Election.
