Chief Swiney Resigns from MPD

As of yesterday, February 8, Chief of Police Charles Swiney tendered his resignation. We, at the City of Morgantown, thank Chief Swiney for his years of service to the City and to the community. We wish him luck in all of his future endeavors.

In his stead, Captain Paul Burden has been named as interim Chief of Police for the City of Morgantown.

Swiney started his police career in 1987 after graduating from Eastern Kentucky University.   He began his career as an officer for the City of Bowling Green and became a Kentucky State Police Trooper in 1994.  During his 17 years at Post 3 in Bowling Green, Swiney served as a trooper and later the Public Affairs officer, which serves, among other things, as a media liason.   He became an officer with the Morgantown Police Department in November of 2012. Swiney took over, for the late interim Chief J.R. Wilkins, in March of 2013.
