Boys and Girls Club Hosts Basketball Camp

On Saturday August 9, 2014, former Butler County High School stars Jamie Jackson and Russell Hankins spent the day with a group of boys teaching basketball fundamentals.  Both Jackson and Hankins left Butler County High School with basketball scholarships and played basketball throughout their college careers.

The basketball camp ran from 10:00am-3:00pm and the boys participating in the camp ran through many drills, practiced a variety of fundamental skills and ended the day with a scrimmage.  Boys and Girls Club Director Bruce White praised Jackson and Hankins for giving back to their home community as they volunteered their time to implement the camp at no charge.  Throughout the day and the many drills, Jackson reminded the boys that practice makes you a better player and that it doesn’t matter what types of clothes or shoes you wear – it’s all about the player you are.  Hankins told the group of boys how lucky the boys are to have the club as a place to be able to go to after school and during the summer to be able to do homework and have friends to practice ball. Both Hankins and Jackson told the boys that while basketball can take you to far places – education and academics is something you have for life and encouraged the boys to take their schoolwork seriously and to always do their best.
