Bobby Ross (Bob) Flener

Bobby Ross (Bob) Flener passed from this earth on Friday, December 19, 2014, after a long illness. He was born July 18, 1932, in Morgantown, KY.
Bob leaves behind his devoted wife of 61 years, Sue Wilson Flener, daughters Andrea Southworth, (Larry), Leslie Webster (Greg), granddaughter Emilie Southworth Barrick (Adam), grandson Hayden Chance Webster, and great-grandson Henry Thomas Barrick. He was preceded in death by his father, Ertest Linden Flener, his mother, Hattie Berry Flener Bradley, and Lt. Col. John M. Bradley.
Bob served in the US Navy as an AT2 in advanced undersea weapons during the Korean Conflict serving aboard the USS Kenneth Whiting in the Formosa Straits.
Bob graduated from the University of KY as a Civil Engineer and did post graduate work in Traffic and Transportation Engineering from Yale University. He spent many years as KY State Traffic Engineer and Director of the Division of Traffic, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Institute of Traffic Engineers, served on President Carter''s National Sub-Committee for Uniform Traffic Control Devices and was one of the founders of what is now called Kentucky Association of Transportation Engineers. After retiring from KY State Government, he worked for the Florida Highway Department and worked as a consultant.
Visitation is Monday December 22, from 5-8 p.m. at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at the funeral home Tuesday, December 23rd at 2:00p.m. with Dr. Phil Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 663 Teton Trail, Frankfort, KY 40601 would be appreciated.
Arrangements are under the direction of Harrod Brothers Funeral Home.
