Bears Impressive in Homecoming Victory

The Breckinridge County Tigers got the unfortunate task of facing the Bears, who were playing their home-opener on homecoming night. The Tigers were smacked around by the mighty Bears with the running clock intact for most of the second half. The final score ended, 48-0.

Bears Football: Bears vs. Tigers

The Tigers opened with several penalties to help offset any momentum. They were forced to punt deep in their own territory and the punt-block team brought the house. The punt got away, but the Bears were set up with perfect field position.
On the third offensive play by the Bears, Rex Henderson threw a strike to Caleb Deweese, who went untouched for a 21-yard score.
The second series for the Tigers produced a decent run of 16 yards, but defensive linemen Conner Reed, Peyton Bratcher, and Kaleb Hunt combined with linebackers John Payton, Caleb Deweese, Dillon Brosnan, and Jacob Courtenay to keep the visitors in their own territory.

Once again, the Tigers’ punt was close to being blocked. The Bears took over and could not find any rhythm either. A booming 45-yard punt by Jake Martin gave the ball back to Breck.
Another positive run on first down set up a second and short; however, Payton and Courtenay blew up the next two Tiger plays and they were set to punt, again.
This time, Blake Graham blocked the punt and recovered it close to the five. Shortly thereafter, Henderson ran a draw play for six points; then, he hit Drake Embry for the conversion.
On the conversion, Breckinridge committed a personal foul. Henderson, who took over the kicking duties, sailed the kickoff through the back of the end zone with help from the fifteen yard infraction.
Just before the end of the first quarter and after a 30-yard run, Coach Brian Bivens got the attention of his defense. His defense responded. Reed and Bratcher set the tone up front and the Tigers were soon punting another time.
“We must continue getting better at the little things. Games are won and lost by the minute details and we must improve in this aspect,” Coach Emmick stressed.
He continued by saying, “We missed several adjustments defensively and that was solely from a lack of concentration. Each player has one job to do each snap. He must work to perfect his job and concentrate on it and it alone. If we can do that, we can continue to be successful.”

On the next possession, Henderson marched his team down the field with throws to Graham, Martin, and Kory Johnson. Ian Embry capped off the 81-yard drive with a nice catch and run in which he stretched out and sailed for the pylon. Henderson’s PAT was down the middle and the Bears were up 21-0 with nine minutes still to play in the first half.
The next two Tiger possession ended with punts, once again.
Henderson, who threw for over 300 yards and four touchdowns, went deep to Drake Embry on fly-pattern. This set up another Butler County score. Graham was the recipient on a short pass. He was hit low and soared through the air as he crossed the goal line. Henderson’s kick was on the money, 28-0.
The second half was not much different. On the kickoff to start the third quarter, Martin shed a tackler and juked another as he sprinted down the sideline for 78 yards.
Daltyn Havens and Jacob Hixenbaugh made a good tackle on the ensuing kickoff. Breckinridge County, who was under the century mark in total offense, stalled out near midfield and the Bears went on quick strike from their own twenty.
Payton picked up a 21 yards on a reception which he broke two tackles and carried three Tigers on his back before they rode him down. Johnson laid out for a diving 15-yard catch. Graham hauled in another for 20 more. Ian Embry scored the sixth Bear TD and his second of the night with another 20-yarder from Henderson.

The running clock took over and the Bears comfortably emptied their bench. Embry got into the scoring column one more time on a fourth and goal run from the six.
The Bears have a tough stretch of games and will be at Grayson this Friday. Concentrating and studying scouting reports and the little preparation items will be key according to Emmick.
“They are very well coached. They have an expectation to do well in their out-of-district schedule. It will be a much energized atmosphere. We must come out and focus on the task at hand and allow all of the distractions to fall by the wayside,” Emmick emphasized.
“We will continue to rely on our depth. We have players beginning to step up and that is going to allow us to rest players as the game progresses. Getting a few series here and there will go a long way. Fresh legs make a difference in the fourth quarter,” Emmick concluded.
