Bear Run 2015

Butler County Middle School was the site of the 2015 Bear Run and 1 mile walk on Saturday to support Butler County High School’s 2015 Project Prom. This is the 9th year for the run, which started in 2007 . This year the run featured 61 runners and 44 walkers in a diverse range of ages.

“It was supposed to be cloudy, and we were blessed with sun.” Amy Deweese stated. With a high of 80 on Saturday morning, some may have wished for a cloud.

Water and fruit was available at the finish line, and there were refuel stations along the route as well. One such station was manned by Abigail Hudson and Dominique Perry, students at Butler County High School.

Overall winners in male and female categories were Nolan Judson, and Ashley Runion, respectively.
11 year old Cassidy Parker finished 19th overall, first in her division: “I like sports and running has always been a fun hobby for me. My favorite part [of the race] was just running and seeing what I could do… how fast I could go.”

12 year old Virginia Deweese says “I wanted to participate because it’s good exercise… and my favorite part was [participating] with other people.”
According to Amy Deweese there were “over 100 participants today, excluding people that just donated and [helped out]. Shirley Allen, Ronda Vaughn… Jim and Fammie Green were just instrumental.”
Funds raised through the event go to help out project prom, an after prom event designed to create a safe and fun environment for students.
