BCNSDAR Attends KSDAR Conference and Announces Partnership in Vietnam 50th Commemorative Anniversary

Cynthia R. Hensley, past BCNSDAR Regent and Jane Eaton-Henderson, Regent 2014-2016 at conference.

Kentucky State Daughters of the American Revolution  118th conference was held March 27- 30 in Lexington, Kentucky.  Jane Eaton-Henderson,  present Butler County Chapter regent  and Cynthia Hensley, past  regent,  attended Saturdays Luncheon and Banquette.
BCDAR member Laura Smith Crafton received a certificate for reading all 20 books last year from the KSDAR book list. This was a perfect kick-off for our 2014, “Literacy Awareness”  for all ages, that also includes a BCDAR book club," and Ladies of the Club". The  name was taken from the book of the same name by, Helen  Hooven Santmyer. Her book will be the first  read by the club. If you are interested please join us. Time and first meeting to be announced..
Laura is also the BCDAR Junior American Citizen, Literacy and Library chair person.
The chapter also received  seven  award certificates for other activities during the year.

Saturday’s conference banquet speaker was Yvonne Schliz ,Colonel, U.S. Air Force Retired, who spoke about the United States Vietnam War Commemoration. NSDAR  is a partner and last fall offered this to all states and their chapters. BCNSDAR is a partner and will be holding Commemorative events 2014-2017. As a partner the chapter received special recognition that evening.  along with 7 other  Kentucky chapters who have partnered with the program.
Sunday morning a man in his 20’s came to get our luggage and knew we were DAR ladies. Could it have been the hat boxes, bulging suitcases, hanging bags or DAR Totes enough  for a month? As the cart was loaded,  he told us he had been a server at Saturday nights dinner and was really impressed with the speaker and the video shown. He had been moved by both and, recognized me as one of the 7  ladies who had also handed out commemorative buttons to Vietnam Veterans and family members attending. He loaded our luggage and wished us luck , saying his Grandfather had been in Vietnam and now he understood more about him and was going to, that night thank him for his service!
We drove off  uplifted by the young mans sentiments,  thinking once again the Daughters of the American Revolution have made a difference!

Our next program is the annual Silver Tea April, 24, 7:00pm at the Adult Education Complex Community Room to honor Butler County Students and award scholarships.

BCNSDAR meets the 4th Thursday every month  at Butler County Public Library. We have many exciting plans for 2014-2016 so come join us and let us find a patriot hiding in your family tree. Linda Deweese, Registrar and her “Root Seekers” will be glad to help with the search. Saturday, May 3,time to be announced,  BCDAR will hold a Genealogy Workshop at the Butler County Public Library. Myra Evans, KSDAR Registrar will be conducting.

Please join us Flag Day Saturday June 14 at 10:00 on Courthouse lawn  for our first Vietnam 50th Commemorative Anniversary program.
