BCMS Mission: Expanding Minds, Strengthening Bodies, and Nurturing Spirits For Life Long Success

Principal Robert Tuck

On behalf of the faculty and staff at BCMS, welcome to the 2014-2015 school year. To those students and parents who are new to BCMS, we extend an especially warm welcome to you as your educational journey continues.  A new school year is an exciting time and the faculty and staff at BCMS is working hard to ensure that every student has a positive and productive start.  Our goal is to provide students with learning experiences that will allow them to grow and plan for their future.

We are very proud that our school was recognized as a High-Progress School, placing us in the top 10 percent in improvement for middle schools last year.  Since then, we have been working to keep our school moving forward.  With the support of the Butler County Board of Education, we have added additional math and reading classes to this coming years BCMS curriculum to help assure students are college and career ready.

Parental involvement is a very critical factor to a student’s success.  We encourage parents to be as involved as possible in their child’s education.  We are looking to restart our schools P.T.O., and if any parent is interested in being part of this group please let us know.  To the students, we ask that you reflect on your goals and strive not only to pursue personal excellence, but also to demonstrate respect, integrity, and support for one another.  We are here to support and encourage you as you explore different possibilities and grow as learners.

I would also like to take this opportunity to also welcome the additions to our staff.  We are very excited about the prospects of working with these individuals.

James Bryant will be filling a custodial/maintenance position.  He will be replacing Dave Thacker who retired at the end of last year.  Coach Bryant will also be our 8th grade head football coach.  He comes to us after serving as an assistant football coach at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro.  He also worked at Owensboro Manufacturing in Industrial Maintenance.  We are excited to have Coach Bryant on our staff.

Monica Crawford will be teaching Art/Drama full time at BCMS this school year.  She worked part time last year, and we are glad to have her on our staff as a full time member.  She has 3 years experience working in the Bowling Green School System as an instructional assistant. She also did her student teaching through Warren County School System and did part of her student teaching overseas in Spain.  She is excited about continuing to have the opportunity to work with our many gifted art/drama students full time at BCMS.

Pauline Dockery will be moving over from MES to work in our FMD room.  She brings a lot of knowledge, love, and energy to her job.  We want to welcome her aboard.

Nikki Shields will be teaching reading and language arts this year.  She did her student teaching here at BCMS before spending the last two years teaching language arts at Ohio County Middle School.  We are excited to have Mrs. Shields back in the BCMS family.
Laura Winters will be teaching language arts and social studies at BCMS this school year. She will be replacing Mrs. Rebecca Mudd who retired at the end of last year.  Ms. Winters has been teaching language arts and social studies at Union County Middle School the last two years and will be a nice addition to our staff.

We are currently working to fill a special education vacancy left void when Ryan Emmick recently took the head teacher position at the Butler County Learning Center.  We want to wish Mr. Emmick the best as he moves forward in his career.  We are also partnering with the high school to hire a Math teacher.  We plan on having both positions filled by Opening Day of the new school year.

In regards to the facilities, our campus looks great. Our tremendous custodial staff has been hard at work all summer preparing the school for the students’ return. A special thanks to Dale, Melissa, Sherry, and James for all their hard work and dedication to the students of Butler County.

Jump Start for our sixth grade students will be July 31st from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Buses will be running from different locations throughout the county (more details to come). We encourage all sixth graders to attend.  We will be doing enrollments on that day for any students who have moved into our district. We will also be having an open house for sixth grade parents and students that night at 5:30 p.m.  Just a reminder to all parents, we do post our newsletters and other information on our school website each Monday. Our website can easily be accessed through our district website at http://www.butlerschools.net/.   You can also follow us on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/pages/BCMSNews/218358144886057?ref=hl&ref_type=....

BCMS is a Title I school.  This means we receive money from the federal government in order to provide additional services in math and reading.  We need feedback on the program from parents.  Therefore, we would like to ask parents to go to www.surveymonkey.com/s/FBQHSPQ and take a Title I survey for our school.  We appreciate you taking the time to fill out the survey.  Paper copies of the survey can also be picked up at BCMS.

With students only being in homeroom during testing, we are not going to post homerooms.  We will be giving 6th grade students who come to Jump Start their schedule that day.  Also, those parents who have signed up for the IC parent portal can start viewing your child’s schedule the last week of July.

Student achievement is our first priority at BCMS. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact me at school (526-5647) or on my cell phone (999-0198) any time a need arises. Stop in and visit us at BCMS anytime!!
