Band Seniors Honored

The Butler County High School Marching Band is well into a busy competition season, and hosted their annual band show on Saturday at BCHS.
The band comes into this season with one of the largest groups of student-musicians in BCHS history. 161 students began working on this year’s show in early August, with two practices a day despite the heat. Counting a large middle school band the total number of students committed to the band right now is over 350.
This year’ show is titled “Stained Glass”. According to senior Lute Locke, the show features music that is different and challenging for the band. “It’s going to be a great show. It’s challenging, but that’s part of the fun of it.”
The band and their supporters arrive early for each competition, and this is a good time for fans to get a sneak peek at the show. The band usually does a full run-thru of their program to try and get everything perfect before they go in front of the judges.
Fans locally got a look at the band on Thursday afternoon when they gathered on the courthouse lawn for a rehearsal. It was clear from the first few notes that although the band was in public, it was still an important tune up for the home show. Director Jason Ausbrooks worked with several sections of the band to fine-tune the performance. The members took the constructive criticism to heart, and even the most casual listener could hear improvement after the nearly hour-long rehearsal in front of the courthouse. Assistant directors are: Phil Ashby, Katy Nash, and Mark Mudd. Field commanders are: Allison Kurfiss, Callie Dockery, Emma Robbins, and Emily Wallace.
Butler County hosted seven bands on Saturday. Bands from Grayson County, Muhlenberg County, Breckinridge County, Franklin-Simpson, Warren East, Logan County, and South Warren High School. The Butler County Seniors were recognized following the National Anthem performed by the 240 BCMS band students. This year’s seniors are;
