Backyard Poultry Production Meeting
There will be an educational session for backyard chicken producers on February 7, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at the Butler County Extension Service. A poultry specialist from the UK College of Agriculture will be here to present information on managing a small flock of chickens. More and more people in Butler County are getting a few chickens for their family. This trend is being seen across our nation. People are wanting to keep a few birds in their backyard or on small acreage. Their reasons are varied but often include: wanting to produce their own food, insect control, insure antibiotic and hormone free poultry products, and aesthetics. This program is being held to help people manage their birds more effectively. Dr. Jacobs will discuss things like what to feed, different breeds for different purposes, facility needs, egg handling, and more. There is no fee to attend the training and everyone is welcome to attend.
For more information, contact the Butler County Extension Office at 112 E GL Smith Street, Morgantown, or call 270-526-3767.
Educational programs of the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service serve all people regardless of race, color, age, sex, religion, disability, or national origin.
