Two Butler County fifth graders, Kobe Annis and Sam Rice, were among the 12 students selected from across the state to display their agriculture science projects at this week’s Kentucky Farm Bureau annual meeting in Louisville.

Annis, a student at North Butler Elementary School, and Rice, a student at Morgantown Elementary School, co-created their project, “Water in Our World.” Their display examined the water cycle’s continuous flow and the amount of water used in agricultural products.

Each winning project was awarded $75.00 and a certificate of recognition for their participation at the state level.

The Science in Agriculture program was developed by Kentucky Farm Bureau as a way to encourage teachers to incorporate agricultural themes into their classroom instruction. Projects are evaluated on categories such as creativity, skill, clarity and thoroughness, agricultural accuracy and scientific thought.

With more than 475,000 member families statewide, Kentucky Farm Bureau is the state’s largest general farm organization. Approximately 1,500 members attended KFB’s 94th annual meeting, December 4-7, to recognize this year’s individual and organizational achievements as well as adopt policy for 2014.
