Andy travels to St. Louis’ Busch Stadium

Friday night, April 17, I, along with my dad, sister and brother-in-law, journeyed to St. Louis’ Busch Stadium to see the Cardinals take on the Cincinnati Reds.  As soon as we made it to St. Louis, we had time to only check into the hotel rooms, drop our bags and head to the game.

Once at the stadium, we did have a little extra time to check out the brand new adjoining hall of fame museum and exhibits.  The history of the Cardinals was all on display and is simply astounding.  The greats from Stan Musial to Lou Brock (who my brother-in-law Brock is named after, btw), and one can’t help but be in awe!

Before the game, we swung by the concession stand and got our hot dogs and cokes (in our massive collectible Cardinal cups) and found our seats to watch the game.  Our seats were phenomenal (thanks Brock).  And they were fairly close to the entrance and concessions. Talk about a coup!

As part of the festivities, Red Schoendienst was honored on the 70th anniversary of his big league debut.  “I owe so much to the Cardinal people, the doctors, trainers.  Lou Brock was a big savior to me when I was manager.  72 years ago I signed my first contract with owner Red Brayden”.  About his first game: I think I made an error.  I played left field in the old Wrigley Field.  At least that’s what they tell me”.  For the rest of the interview, see the link below.

The game was fun.  Sometimes they can hit a lull but this one was pretty exciting! The two hour, twenty-one minute game (which was pretty short compared to others I can recall), with 46,462 in attendance, got to see and hear “that’s a winner”, the famous Cardinal calling card for a win, which they did 6-1.  All of us Cardinal fans definitely went home (to our hotel rooms) happy! Many thanks to Brock for the tickets.
