Ag Commissioner Quarles makes visit to Morgantown

Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles visited Morgantown Monday to promote Ag Tag donations.

Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles made a visit to Butler County Clerk's office Monday to promote Ag Tag donations. Anyone renewing their farm plates can donate up to $10 to be equally divided among Kentucky 4-H, Kentucky FFA, and the Kentucky Department of Agriculture for promotional programs. In 2015, Ag Tag donations totaled more than $500,000, Quarles said. Butler County Clerk Sherry Johnson said partial donations of less than $10 are welcomed as well.

Quarles said the average Kentucky farmer is 62, using the statistic as an indicator of why it is vital to invest in the future of FFA and 4-H programs. "It's important we develop a pipeline of the next generation of agricultural leaders and it starts in 4-H and FFA," Quarles said. "Butler County is known for being a farm and agriculture county, I've known Sam Moore my whole life. Butler County is lucky to have such strong agriculture leadership." Moore, past president of Kentucky Farm Bureau and original member of the Butler County Ag Development Board, said donations only further enrich Butler Co.'s agricultural roots. "This is a good program, it raises a lot of money for two of the best youth organizations there are in Kentucky," he said. "We have great support for them in Butler County."
