77th Annual Farm Bureau Meeting

Alice Forgy won $100 cash at the Farm Bureau Annual Meeting.

Tuesday evening, September 8 was the 77th Annual Butler County Farm Bureau meeting.  It was held at the Eva J. Hawes Agriculture Center. 

If Butler County can win the cup for the third consecutive year, it will have a permanent home in Butler County.

Of the many things celebrated was the fact that Butler County won the Outstanding Farm Bureau County Award for the second consecutive year.
President Shane Wells welcomed everyone to the meeting and Woody Moore gave the invocation.

Guests were introduced by Gregory Drake.  They were Representative for Senator Rand Paul-Jason Haskell.  Representative for Congressman Brett Guthrie, Suzanne Miles, State Senator CB Embry. Mitch McConnell representative Tim Thomas.  State Representative Jim Decesare, Representative for Agriculture Commissioner James Comer-Warren Beeler.  Butler County Judge Executive David Fields.  City Council members Gary Southerland and Russell Givens, Suzanne Brosnan-PVA.  County Court Clerk Sherry Johnson.

Second Vice President of Kentucky Farm Bureau Fritz Geesley.  3rd District director of KY Farm Bureau Pat Henderson.  Area Program Director Joe Rogan.  Matt Ingram-KY Farm Bureau State office.  State directors Pat Henderson and Fritz Geesley shared some remarks.

Business was then called to order by President Shane Wells.  Robert Taylor brought the minutes and treasurer’s report.  Both were approved as read.  Greg Drake Sr. spoke as Resolutions Committee chairman.  County resolutions were adopted.  Barbara Sullivan gave the Scholarship Committee report. Lilly Moore, an Agronomy major at WKU, was last year’s recipient of the scholarship.  Rita Drake reported on the Women’s Program and the many programs sponsored throughout the year. She also reported that 150 were in attendance at the recent Field Day at Heritage Farms in Sharer. 

Joey Kirby, Young Farmer Chairman, presented the 2015 Outstanding Young Farm Family to Landon and Sara Givens. 

Shanna Drake presented the Outstanding Service to Agriculture award to Debbie Cardwell. 

James Runion recognized Penny Cole, Brad Langdon and Tim Denton for Distinguished Service to Farm Bureau. 

James Runion showed a video touting Butler County’s status as the Top County in the state. 

Chairman Don Sullivan gave the nomination committee report.  Nominated were Shane Wells-President and Gregory Drake II-Vice President.
