2015 Field Day to Focus on Alfalfa, Soybeans, and Equipment

Alfalfa being harvested.

The Butler County Extension Service/Butler County Farm Bureau Field Day will be Thursday, September 3, 2015 at the Heritage Farm in the Sharer community of Butler County.  The farm is on Hwy 1083 in southern Butler County.  Registration will begin at 3:30 p.m., with the program beginning at 4:00 p.m.

This year’s Butler County Field Day will focus on Alfalfa.  There is a popular misconception that “we can’t grow alfalfa in Butler County.”  The Cohron family has made alfalfa production an important part of their operation, and we will look at some of the factors and management practices that are making that possible.  We will see young stands and old stands, and consider how to keep alfalfa stands healthy and weed free.  All forage producers should consider making alfalfa a part of their program and this will be a great opportunity to see it close to home.

Michelle Moore, our Extension Nutrition Educator, will be on hand to provide samples and recipes of healthy foods people can feed their family.   There will be delicious meal provided at the end of the field day so make plans now to attend this year’s event.

For more information, contact the Butler County Extension Office at 112 E GL Smith Street, Morgantown, or call 270-526-3767. Educational programs of the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service serve all people regardless of race, color, age, sex, religion, disability, or national origin.
